Who wants to be a radio star? Over the course of the past year, I have had many conversations with advisors who are interested in adding a radio program to their marketing efforts. It seems that everyone is looking for an additional way to appeal to prospects, and the concept of radio carries a “sizzle” most marketing programs simply do not provide.
Radio can be a very effective strategy, if it is done the right way. This blog and website is designed to keep you apprised of successes enjoyed by advisors using the WealthVest Radio program, discuss best practices, and help you decide if radio is the proper medium to help position yourself as the financial planning expert in your listening area.
So what do the most successful radio personalities do to ensure the leads keep coming in hot? Here is a quick list:
BRANDING – make sure every piece of mail you send, every email you type, and every prospecting piece references your affiliation with your radio program. Advertise it on your business cards, letterhead, and envelopes. You ARE the financial planning expert – make sure others know it.
HOLD A SEMINAR! – The most successful advisors using radio are also doing other things to promote their practices – seminars, client events, and prospecting activities. Radio marketing wraps an overall strategy into a very successful package.
BE YOURSELF – Yes, you have a script. Yes, it is a good roadmap. But you can ad-lib to suit your personality. Our most successful radio show advisor does a liberal amount of talking away from the script, and it pays huge dividends as measured by leads. I will be interviewing him for the next blog.
BE COMMITTED – radio is a big step, both in expense and exposure. While there is never a silver bullet with any marketing program, radio can be very effective if done correctly. Make sure you are committed to making it work for the long run before you decide to begin.
